What's love got to do with it

Today is February 14th, 2014 or a special day we call Valentine's Day.

This day has always been a favorite of mine.  I must confess when I was in grade school, I loved this day. Receiving Valentine's from friends and 'secret' admirers. How thrilling and sweet. As I grew up, the expectations became greater as I grew into adult relationships.  The anticipation of receiving a special gift on this day could be over-shadowed by someone forgetting to give said gift to you. I admit I have been disappointed on this day because of my expectations placed on others.

Then one day I read about the real story behind Valentine's Day. It was a day created from an expression of friendship, not romantic love. This changed my perception of the day. Valentine's Day is, and could be for everyone, just not lovers. The bonus is the excuse to eat ALL the chocolate. As I vowed to celebrate Valentine's Day, as an expression of friendship and pure thankfulness, every year has become a gift to myself. Surprise -life is sweet like that.
